Callous Midlothian crooks filmed stealing teenager's motorbike during the night

A gutted Midlothian man has told how "three boys in black" stole his motorbike in a late-night raid

Electrician apprentice Ian Gardiner had last seen his bright orange KTM RC125 with the number plate GP19 HGJ on Friday, April 22, at 11:30pm - and by the following morning it was gone.

Ian said: "I noticed the bike was gone at 6:30am on Saturday morning, April 23. I have reviewed CCTV, and it shows three boys in black stealing the bike at 1:10am from a property's backyard.

"I have CCTV footage at different angles of three boys rolling the bike out the front of my house and going into a street opposite my house."

"I felt annoyed and enraged, just anger for the people who stole it. I want the three boys to know there are consequences for their actions."

The 18-year-old buys and sells motorbikes as a hobby and therefore has a few bikes, but the one that was stolen was by far Ian's favourite bike.

He hopes that the information he gets from the local community will help the police to find the people responsible.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of Ian's hobby, this is not the first time he has been stolen from. He said: "I've previously had motorbikes stolen and knew who the people responsible were.

"I know the police can't do anything without robust evidence to show it was them even though you know they took it."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers received a report of the theft of a motorbike from an address in Dalkeith around 12.55pm on Sunday, 24 April 2022, which happened between 11pm on Friday, 22 April, and 8am on Saturday, 23 April. Enquiries are ongoing."
