Callous Edinburgh crooks steal man's treasured bike he built with his father

A man who built a bike worth thousands of pounds with his dad has appealed to the public to try to have it returned after it was stolen by heartless thieves over the festive period.

Colin Dunlop, from Tollcross, had spent hours building the bike with his father only for it to be taken from his flat landing in what he felt was a targeted attack by criminals.

The bike was last seen at around 4.30pm on January 2, but after Colin had left his home at 4.00pm, his partner heard a loud bang from outside of their home and noticed that one of their bikes had been stolen.

The cable that had locked the bike to the rail was also gone when Colin rushed back to his home shortly after 4.30pm to report the incident to the police.

On the incident Colin said: “I left my flat at around 4.00pm yesterday and then my girlfriend heard a bang outside the flat.

“She then noted that one of the bikes - the only one worth money - was gone and the cable that it was locked to was gone too. I rushed back around 4.30pm then reported the incident to the police.

“We have our own landing so no one else would go by the bikes which makes me think it was targeted.”

The bike is described as having an Icanbikes XL frame, Zipp 303S wheels, WTB Nano SG2 tyres set up tubeless, Rotor chainset with rotor InPower power meter and a Rotor BSA bottom bracket.

It also has Shimano XT pedals and Shimano GRX groupset as well as Easton handlebars and stem.

There is also a Carbon 27.2 seatpost with a Prologo Nago saddle, Apidura large frame bag, and Campagnolo Calipers/rotors.

If anyone comes across the bike, Colin has asked them to contact him via email: Colin.Dunlop.cmd@gmail.com

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of the theft of a bicycle from a property on Lochrin Place, Edinburgh around 4:50pm on Monday January 2 2023.

“Enquiries are at an early stage.”

Anyone with any information are advised to cite the crime reference number: CR/000460/23 when calling police on 111.
