Calling Paw-fect pets - Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to host virtual pet show

The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home are set to the host a virtual pet show, so if you think you have the "paw-fect" pet then this could be your chance.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the animal rescue home's fundraising efforts, and they are unable to host their hugely popular dog and cat competitions at festivals and galas as they normally do.

So, they have now gone digital and are looking for Edinburgh pets to enter in a number of categories - including the cosiest cat, the best dressed pooch and the best pet pair.

All winning categories will receive a certificate and then be entered into a prize draw to win a personalised jigsaw of their pet!

The categories will be judged by the Home’s Animal Champion ambassador, celebrity vet and animal welfare campaigner, Marc ‘the vet’ Abraham with winners announced on 13 May 2020.

Entry costs £2, and you can donate on their website.

Lauren Walker, Community Fundraiser said: “Our dog and cat competitions are always a huge hit at events and people just love to show off their pets! Every pet owner knows that theirs is the best, so what better opportunity to make people smile during this difficult time with cute animal photos and support a great cause at the same time?”

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has taken a huge financial hit due to the pandemic, but continues to support the local community through its pet food bank, as well as providing the best care and rehabilitation to the many dogs and cats who are still on site.

All the money raised will go directly to supporting its mission to rescue, reunite and rehome lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Marc Abraham, Animal Champion ambassador said: "Animal welfare charities are continuing to do some amazing work, despite the coronavirus pandemic. Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home staff are on the front line making sure that stray and abandoned animals are so well cared for and ready for their forever homes when the doors re-open. I am proud to be their Animal Champion and delighted to have been asked to judge their virtual pet competition.”
