Calling all budding photographers: City Art Centre want your photos of Edinburgh's New Town

The City Art Centre in Edinburgh are hosting a new photography exhibition dedicated to the capital's world-famous architecture...and they want your photos to form part of the exhibition too.

Classical Edinburgh will explore and examine the changes that have taken place in half a century of development which has seen the neo-classical New Town transform from an area of refined respectability to an integral part of a bustling cosmopolitan city.

The exhibition will connect the work of famous architectural photographer Edwin Smith and contemporary Peebles-based photographer Colin McLean, and contains some 20 original prints by Edwin Smith, alongside 40 new images of Edinburgh by Colin McLean.

There's also going to be an exciting competition as well - the gallery is inviting budding photographers to capture their own images of the New Town, with winning entries being displayed alongside the exhibition in the City Art Centre from 9 November 2019 to 8 March 2020.

Photo entries will be accepted within the following categories: 1) After Dark: views of the city once the daylight has gone,

2) Seasons: the heart of Edinburgh throughout the year,

3) Working Life: the daily hustle and bustle of city life,

and 4) Architectural Gems: unusual glimpses or facets of buildings, interiors, streets, panoramas.

Jessops will produce the chosen works and winners’ names will be credited on the Acknowledgements panel within the exhibition. If you win, you'll be be invited to the Private View of the exhibition on Thursday 14 November along with four guests and your work will be promoted across all City of Edinburgh Council media channels and on the website.

Full competition guidelines including instructions for entrants can be found  here .
