Call to unite in Jo Cox's name at events to mark birthday and ease Brexit divide

Saturday would have been murdered MP Jo Cox’s 45th birthday, and Sunday is the third anniversary of the Brexit vote.

And this is the weekend when the kingdom becomes united once again.

The Great Get Together, in memory of Jo, who believed “we have far more in common than that which divides us”, kicked off yesterday.

And on Sunday, people with opposing views will sit down with a cuppa across the UK to find common ground as part of the Mirror’s Britain Talks project.

Jo's sister Kim Leadbeater praised the initiative (PA)

Hundreds of schoolchildren from the Batley area of West Yorkshire, where Jo was MP, launched The Great Get Together yesterday by standing together to create a heart.

Kim Leadbeater, Jo’s sister, said: “It was brilliant.”
