Call to honour Scotswomen in the motor industry

MOTORING fans are being urged to nominate Scots females for the prestigious Great British Women in the Car Industry awards.

The call comes from Stuart Gray, of Knockhill racing circuit, who said: “Scotland leads the way in encouraging and supporting women who want to work in the automotive industry or participate in motorsport.”

He pointed out that Knockhill’s boss for the last 15 years has been a woman, Jillian Shedden, while former F1 test driver Susie Wolff started out karting at the Fife venue and eRally project leader Jean Hay is based there.

The awards celebrate the British women who are the rising stars of the global automotive industry. Run by Autocar and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the top 100 will be announced at a ceremony in London on June 19.

Nominations close at midnight on April 17 and Stuart added: “We know how well Scotland does in motor racing but now is the chance to show just how far our influence extends. This is a great opportunity for women to be recognised.”
