Call to curb drop-out rate in Madhya Pradesh schools due to pandemic

BHOPAL: Influencers meet as part of an advocacy on education and learning children as a result of the pandemic was held in Bhopal on Wednesday. The meet was jointly organized by Bhopal by Child Rights Observatory and UNICEF India.

The meet had participation member of officials of UNICEF, Child Rights Observatory, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, child welfare committee, director of Rajya Shiksha Kendra, apart from spokespersons of political parties and MLAs.

Around 25 key influencers comprising member of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Child Welfare Committee of Bhopal and others discussed challenges of learning crisis due to Covid-19 and reopening of schools.

Retired MP CS, Nirmala Buch, president CRO, stressed strongly on reaching out to children who will go missing due to Covid and state need to focus on learning not just opening of schools. Speaking at the meet, F A Jami, Education Specialist, UNICEF spoke on the state of school education during Covid in the state and challenges faced by children, including digital reach and advocated on school reopening, having longer bridge course of 12-18 months duration, efforts to make sure that we reach all children and take specific steps to prevent drop out.

Dr Hitesh Bajpai, State Spokesperson for BJP said that State has stepped up efforts to address the challenges of Covid.

Brajesh Chouhan, member State Commission for protection of child rights said that the state needs to focus on making special courses for children as learning due to the digital medium has its challenges.

Anil Gulati, Communication Specialist UNICEF spoke on the objectives of the meet and discussed the way forward.

Bhupendra Gupta, spokesperson of Congress, said we need to focus on learning and take measures to increase vaccination coverage faster so that we can move towards school repoening. Shailendra Shelly, Spokesperson CPI, talked about universal education for all and the need to focus on those vulnerable.
