Call The Midwife series finale tribute sees show honour late crew member as credits roll

Call The Midwife viewers were left moved and also keen to find out more as the show paid tribute to a member of its team at the end of Sunday' gripping series finale.

After a week of being on tenterhooks, thanks to the horrifying conclusion to February 13's penultimate episode, millions settled down hoping for the best but fearing the worst as titles rolled on Sunday's series 11 closer.

Both Doctor Turner and Sister Julienne's fates were very uncertain after the train taking them back to Poplar crashed into another service when the driver suffered a medical emergency at the wheel.

If you haven't watched Sunday's Call The Midwife yet * SPOILER ALERT* the characters played by Stephen McGann and Jenny Agutter, both survived, although things were very much touch and go as the episode played out to a huge audience on BBC1.

The train crash did result in two fatalities, as well as driver Lionel Corbett passing away, tragically just as his partner was giving birth to their baby; passenger Dorothy Carnie also died.

And there was more tragedy when teenage expectant mum Carole lost her baby after going into premature labour.

Call The Midwife viewers' nerves were all over the place throughout the 60 minute finale, with tissues on standby in living rooms all over the country.

And, then as the episode ended, a message appeared on screen reading 'In memory of Kev Curbishley. 1965-2022'

As credits rolled, one viewer took to Twitter to ask: " #CallTheMidwife. Who was Kev Corbishley?"

The Call The Midwife official Twitter account issued a direct reply, writing: "A dearly loved member of our crew who died very recently. He will be missed."

The response sparked a reaction from other fans of the show, with one commenting: "Thank you to all the crew who make Call the Midwife. Sorry for your loss," and a second replying: "So sad to hear this., sending condolences to his family & all cast & crew members of the best series on tv."

The Call the Midwife account also shared news of two more series to come in the aftermath of series 11's tense finale.

The show is due back on screen in 2023, with the forthcoming series each having a Christmas special as well.
