Call the Midwife's Helen George lets slip backstage 'drama' during filming for series finale

Helen George has let slip that things didn't go entirely to plan backstage as camera rolled on the series finale of Call The Midwife.

After fans were kept waiting a week longer than anticipated to see the highly anticipated episode, due to the BBC postponing it to shows the BAFTAs, the final part of the hit show's 12th series finally aired in its usual 8pm slot on February 26 and there was plenty of highs and lows for viewers to experience over the hour long broadcast.

Many Call The Midwife viewers described this year's finale as 'an emotional rollercoaster' with the death of a heavily pregnant mum seeing things take a tragic turn 45 minutes in, as a frantic Dr Turner hastily delivered her unborn baby, before everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Sister Monica Joan, who appeared gravely ill in the penultimate episode, turned up at the church to lead proceedings as Helen's character Trixie married her beau Matthew.

Their nuptials were always going to be the focal points of the Call The Midwife series finale and, while the preparations didn't run as smoothly as they could have, the ceremony itself went off without a hitch, well at least on camera anyway, as popular star of the BBC show, Helen,. has revealed that something went awry with one of her co-stars behind the scenes during filming.

Discussing the finale with the Radio Times, Helen said: "Something did go wrong on the day of filming, too. We'd been given pizzas, because everyone was starving.

"And poor Megan (Cusack, who plays Nancy Corrigan,) got grease all over her bridesmaid's dress. That was a drama."

While fans of fellow Sunday night drama Vera have to wait to finds out if there will be a series 13 of the ITV favourite, Call The Midwife devotees can rest easy in the knowledge that there are at least another two series to come, with series 13 being preceded by the show's annual Christmas special in December.
