Call The Midwife's Helen George 'clarifies' show's future after raising 'exit' fears

Helen George has offered some clarification on Call The Midwife's future, having admitting she is scared of being 'written out' of the hit BBC drama.

Helen has been right at the heart of the action in the long-running show for years now, with her return after maternity leave for last year's Christmas episode, seeing her much loved character Trixie Franklin proposed to be beau Matthew. After the series 12 finale was pushed back a week by the BBC, in order to show this year's BAFTA Film Awards, the couple's wedding gave the hour long episode its focal point, with Sister Monica Joan returning to lead the nuptials, much to the delight of fans.

While there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding Vera, the ITV drama that went up against Call The Midwife in the ratings every Sunday night, we know that Call The Midwife will be back and, during an appearance on Morning Live, Helen revealed just how many series are currently in the pipeline.

Appearing via video call, with much darker hair than usual, thanks to her role as Anna in The King and I musical, Helen explained: "So we start filming another series this year and then we have another two after that, so technically three."

As had become the norm for CTM, its 13th series is set to be preceded by this year's Christmas special but Helen has admitted that she is still unsure of just how long she'll be involved in the show.

In a Q&A with Radio Time, she said: "You never have complete control. Absolutely, it's a genuine fear. You never know.

"And they might just come to a point where they think, 'Do you know what, we've got nothing more to say about your character. There's nothing left to do with you. So you're off.' It happens."
