Call the Midwife's Helen George announces she's pregnant with cute bump snap

Call the Midwife star Helen George has announced she's pregnant with baby number two.

The 37-year-old actress shared the news with Instagram followers as she shared a summery snap of her showing off her blossoming baby bump.

"Baking number 2. Due in December," Helen told her online fans who soon flooded her with messages of congratulations.

Helen and her husband - and co-star - Jack Ashton are already parents to three-year-old daughter Wren Ivy.

The acting couple starred together on Call the Midwife, with Helen having played Nurse Trixie Franklin since the show first aired in 2012 and Jack playing vicar Tom Hereward.

The couple met when filming the BBC series in South Africa in 2016.

Helen was previously married to actor Oliver Boot, but they divorced in 2015.

The actress worked throughout her first pregnancy with Call the Midwife producers working hard to disguise her bump on set.

Helen told Radio Times in 2018: "I was pregnant in the series, so you just kind of see me walk across the screen sometimes with odd fashions, or I’d sit down a lot, or I’m wearing lots of capes.”

“It was difficult to cover it up,” she said, “because it wasn’t a correct storyline to choose for the character, as well. It wasn’t right for Trixie to be pregnant. So we just did our best to cover it up. I just get a bit larger and my boobs get a little bit bigger.”

Speaking about how her work on the BBC drama prepared her for becoming a first time mum, Helen added: “We’ve done the show for a long time now, and you think you know everything about babies because you’re an actress, and all about midwifery, and actually you realise that you don’t know anything about it. It’s quite hard work.

"So it’s prepared me well.”

Baby Wren then arrived so early in 2017 that she was able to attend Helen's baby shower.

When Helen announced her second pregnancy on Wednesday night, her Call the Midwife co-stars were among those sharing their best wishes.

Actor Cliff Parisi, who also starred in EastEnders, wrote " Congratulations" followed by a number of applause emojis.
