'Call of Duty' Will No Longer Release 'Modern Warfare,' 'Black Ops' Games Back-to-Back

The team behind "Call of Duty" has announced that back-to-back releases for "Black Ops" and "Modern Warfare" will no longer be made moving forward.

It can be recalled that "Modern Warfare" released games in 2022 and 2023, while "Black Ops" released games in 2024 and this year.

No More Back-to-Back 'Black Ops,' 'Modern Warfare' Releases

According to the "Call of Duty" team, there are many reasons behind the decision to stop back-to-back releases. However, they cite one as the main reason.

"The reasons are many, but the main one is to ensure we provide an absolutely unique experience each and every year," the team said.

"We will drive innovation that is meaningful, not incremental," the team added. "While we aren't sharing those plans today, we look forward to doing so when the time is right."

What the team means by its statement remains to be seen, but fans are hopeful that this will result in better, more exciting games.

'Black Ops 7' Is Not Doing Well

As an IGN report notes, the announcement comes as "Black Ops 7" continues to suffer from negative feedback and poor sales.

As of writing, "Black Ops 7" has "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam, and only 8% of users leaving Google Reviews like the game.

There is, however, good news for those who want to try out the game. According to the "Call of Duty" team, "Black Ops 7's" Multiplayer and Zombie modes will be open for a free trial next week.

This will coincide with a Double XP weekend.
