Sledgehammer aims to up the realism in Call of Duty: Vanguard, its upcoming WWII shooter, with PlayStation 5 leading the charge. Players on PS5 will be treated to DualSense controller features that mimic the feeling of handling a weapon.
Thanks to the controller’s adaptive triggers, each weapon will have its own “break” point as you squeeze the trigger, with the tension mounting until it locks and you spit out a round. A sidearm will have less tension than an M1 Garand, and each weapon is tuned to have its own physical handling for the controller.
“Our goal in Call of Duty: Vanguard was to simulate the trigger weight of real-world weapons, and to give the player the opportunity to find the trigger pull that works for them in the game,” the developer said on the PlayStation Blog. “This is greatly aided by the feedback applied by the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers.”
It should add a sense of weight to your weapons, which itself will be augmented by Vanguard‘s more reactive environments. Grab hold of an LMG and you can chew through the environments.
The DualSense’s haptic feedback will make this more believable, too. Using a range of tiny vibrations, the controller is capable of mimicking the sensation of debris whizzing past your head.
Unless you have a beastly PC, it seems like PlayStation might be the best place to play Vanguard when it releases for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on Nov. 5.
