‘Call of Duty: Vanguard’ launch sales 40% lower than the previous title in the UK

Call of Duty: Vanguard is now available worldwide, and although it has been a mostly positive reception for the latest entry in the series, the latest sales data in the UK suggests that far fewer players are buying the game.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, physical retail sales dropped by 26% compared to the launch of last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Digital sales have fared even worse, with 44% fewer digital versions being sold to players. Despite this seemingly dire news, Vanguard still manages to be the biggest game of the week in the UK, and one of the biggest launches of the year.

Call of Duty: Vanguard has launched at an awkward time, with much of the anticipation building up to launch being overshadowed by Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite, both of which have had recent beta test phases to keep players occupied. Call of Duty: Warzone is also still incredibly popular, likely reducing the number of players that feel the need to buy a new entry in the series.

Elsewhere in the UK charts, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has seen a resurgence, moving from position 25 last week to 8 this week, while games such as FIFA 22, Guardians of the Galaxy, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe all hold solid positions, as you would expect. You can see the full weekly games chart for the UK below.
