With the UK now in its second week of coronavirus lockdown, many bored Brits have turned to gaming in the hopes of filling their day at home.
One of the most popular video games at the moment is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Warzone, which launched last month.
The game features a massive combat arena where 100 plus players are put into squads of three and fight to survive.
While the game has online been available for a matter of weeks, Activision, the developer behind the game, has revealed that it’s already had to ban 50,000 players.
Activision explained: “There's no place for cheating in games. Warzone has zero tolerance for cheaters.
“We take all forms of cheating very seriously, maintaining a level and fair playing field for everyone is among our highest priorities. This is an area we have been working on heavily, but it isn’t always something we discuss publicly.”
Cheating comes in a range of forms in Warzone, although the most common hack is an aimbot - a piece of software that automatically targets enemies for you.
Other common forms of cheating include wallhacks, which modify the properties of walls, and using glitches to escape.
Activision is using a number of measures to combat both cheaters and cheat providers in the game.
Security teams constantly monitor the game and review all possible cheats and hacks, which Activision is also working to improve its in-game reporting system.
It added: “Plans are underway to streamline the UI for a more seamless reporting experience.
“For all reports that are received in-game, they are both analyzed and filtered based on key data. Once investigations are complete, we will continue to work as quickly as possible to ban.”
