Infinity Ward announced a surprise PS4 Alpha for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare during Gamescom’s opening night Monday.
The Alpha kicks off Friday the 23rd and runs through Sunday the 25th of August. It’s exclusively for PlayStation 4 players.
The Alpha will be free for all players, so no need to register or sign-up for a code. You’ll simply need to download it from the PlayStation Store for free.
Start and End Times: The Alpha will kick off on Friday, August 23rd at 10 am PT. It will run through end-of-day Sunday the 25th.
Pre-download: You will be able to download the Alpha three hours prior to launch at 7 am PT.
Content
The PS4 Alpha will have just one mode: The brand new 2 vs 2 “Gunfight” mode. Gunfight pits two teams of two players against one another in lightning fast rounds.
Each round is just 40 seconds and the first team to win six rounds takes the match. Loadouts are all random, so you’re stuck with whatever guns you get at the beginning of each round. It’s tense, exciting and a real test of players’ mettle.
There will be five maps available during the beta. Three of these have been revealed already (King, Pine, and Stack) while two new maps (Speedball and Docks) will debut during the Alpha.

Two betas will follow the Alpha beginning in mid-September. These will be on PS4 first and then Xbox One and PC. We’ll have more information on how to get into those as we get closer to launch.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25th.
