The popular video game Call of Duty stopped working for users around the world on Wednesday.
Website DownDetector, which tracks Internet outages, reported problems across Europe and North America.
Many users attempting to log on saw a message saying the "servers are undergoing temporary maintenance."
The problem appears to have started at approximately 12:20pm EST.
Server problems are not uncommon with online games, Downdetector lists reported problems for Call of Duty almost every day. These are usually in the vicinity of 200 to 300 reported cases, but Wednesday's outage generated almost 4,000.
Players flooded Downdetector's discussion boards with many advocating repeatedly restarting their consoles. Restarting appears to have mixed results for both Xbox and PS4 players.
Others advise patiently waiting for the servers to come back online.
Many gamers report server queues with 20 minute waits, and countdowns that go up, or nowhere, or stick after a while.
There was no official comment about the outage on the official social media channels of Call of Duty or game developer Activision, but Activision Support has been responding to user's tweets advising switching to a wired connection, clearing your cache or resetting your router.
