For years, "Call of Duty" fans have been asking for a way to play the original "Black Ops" games on modern PlayStation systems. Now, that long-running request is finally becoming a reality.
Treyarch has confirmed that "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" will receive new PlayStation ports in July. The announcement has become an instant antidote for fans who have been waiting for these titles for a very long time.
From memorable campaigns to iconic Zombies maps, the two classics helped define a golden era of "Call of Duty."
Treyarch Brings Two Fan-Favorite Games Back
The upcoming ports are being handled by Iron Galaxy, a studio known for working on major gaming franchises. Most recently, the developer contributed to "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4."
Treyarch has not yet revealed which PlayStation platforms will receive the games. Earlier reports indicated PlayStation 4 support, which would also allow the titles to run on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.

However, fans are still waiting to learn whether native PS5 versions are also in development.
Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies Return
One of the biggest pieces of news is that both games will include all three core experiences.
Players can jump back into the original campaigns, compete online in multiplayer, and battle endless waves of undead in Zombies mode.
For many fans, Zombies alone is reason enough to revisit the games. Maps from the "Black Ops" era remain some of the most beloved in "Call of Duty" history.
There are still a few unanswered questions. Treyarch has not confirmed whether cross-play will be supported or if players will be able to transfer progress from older versions of the games.
Why 'Black Ops' and 'Black Ops 2 'Are Still So Popular
According to IGN, the original "Black Ops" delivered one of the most talked-about campaigns in the series. Its twists, memorable characters, and Cold War setting helped it stand out from other shooters of its time.
"Black Ops 2" took things even further. It introduced branching story paths and futuristic technology while maintaining the fast-paced gameplay fans loved.
Both games also featured multiplayer systems that many players still rank among the franchise's best. Because of that reputation, fans have spent years asking for remasters, remakes, or modern re-releases.
Rare Return for Classic 'Call of Duty' Games
Unlike other gaming franchises, "Call of Duty" rarely revisits older titles.
The release of "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered" showed there was strong demand for classic experiences. Since then, however, Activision has focused mainly on newer entries and annual releases.
That makes the return of "Black Ops" and "Black Ops 2 "especially notable.
'Call of Duty' Fans Should Celebrate These Comebacks
For PlayStation players, this release offers a chance to experience two of the franchise's most celebrated games once again.
Bringing the port to the modern PlayStation hardware will strike a chord of nostalgia in everyone, especially now that you're about to see faithful recreations of the originals. It will be a matter of time before we see the new changes coming from the two OG "Black Ops" titles.
