"Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2" arrived earlier than expected on the PlayStation 4 and 5.
The re-releases are also available at a rare discounted price on the PlayStation Store, but there is a catch to getting this lower-than-expected price tag.
'Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2' Arrives to PS4, PS5
According to GameRant's report, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2" ports are now available on PlayStation. The early drop came without any prior announcement, making it one of the more surprising shadow releases in recent "Call of Duty" history.
Trophy lists for both titles had already appeared in the PSN database in the days prior, which had already signaled that the release was close, though few expected it to arrive a day early.
Both games are now available to purchase on the PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS5. "Call of Duty: Black Ops" retains its tight file size of 20.17 GB, while "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" comes in at 21.89 GB, making both extremely light installs compared to modern "Call of Duty" titles that routinely require over 100 GB of storage space.
Players who want all available Zombies maps downloaded on a single PlayStation console can now do so for the first time. However, stacking that alongside other "Call of Duty" titles will still take up a significant chunk of total storage.
Most players had been expecting the ports to land on July 10, but both games quietly appeared on the PlayStation Store on July 9, a full day ahead of the widely anticipated release window.
'Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2' Is Cheaper
The base price for each game is $40, and their respective Season Passes are listed at $30 each.
For PlayStation Plus subscribers, however, both "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" are currently discounted to $20 each, with Season Passes dropping to $10 per title through August 6.
That means PlayStation Plus members can grab both games and all of their DLC for $60 total, a considerably better deal than the $140 full price for everything combined.
It is worth noting that "Black Ops 1's" Season Pass is a new addition specific to this release. The original PS3 version required players to purchase each DLC pack individually, so bundling everything into a single Season Pass is a meaningful upgrade for returning players.
The personalization packs for "Black Ops 2," which previously cost $2 per bundle, are now completely free and available through a single downloadable pack.
Should You Get a PlayStation Plus?
For players whose primary platform is PS4 or PS5 and who are interested in revisiting these classic titles, a PlayStation Plus subscription makes a strong case for itself right now. The discounts effectively cut the cost of both games and all their DLC in half, which is a significant saving given how much content both titles carry.
Beyond the "Black Ops" ports, PlayStation Plus already provides access to online multiplayer, monthly free game offerings, and regular discounts across the PlayStation Store.
For avid PlayStation players who have been waiting on these specific ports, subscribing now means locking in thediscounted pricing before the August 6 deadline while also getting access to everything else the service offers at the same time.
