'Call it English University Challenge' Glaswegians baffled after TV contestants fail to identify Scottish city

Glaswegians were left stunned after University Challenge failed to pinpoint their beloved city’s iconic skyline.

Top students from universities in Exeter and Manchester were shown a photo of Scotland’s largest city in a picture round question.

The Armadillo, Finnieston Crane and the Squinty Bridge were among the landmarks clearly in shot in the photo.

Show host Jeremy Paxman asked the two sides to identified the city shown in the picture.

Manchester Uni wrongfully guessed the city was Newcastle before the question was passed over to Exeter.

And despite having a bit of an open goal, the Exeter representative suggested it could be Gateshead.

Proud Glasgow locals couldn’t quite believe what they were watching when they tuned into last night’s show.

One tweeted : “As if they didn’t get that was Glasgow on University Challenge.”

Another joked: “Tonight’s lot didn’t know what the Glasgow river front looks like. Time to call it “English University Challenge.”

A third added: “The absolute unearthly rage that enters my body as soon as someone gets a question wrong about my home city on University Challenge.”

And it is not the first time that the highly intelligent contestants have gotten questions about Scotland badly wrong.

Students from Trinity College Cambridge believed that Aberdeen and Glasgow were in the Scottish Borders last week.

They then went on to suggest that the Old Firm derby took place between Hearts and Rangers during the cringe-worthy incident.
