Call for vaccine volunteers to support jab rollout

Volunteers are being sought to help support the vaccination programme in Perth and Kinross.

Over 300 staff from across the council and the health and social care partnership have already helped with the community vaccination centres in Perth, Blairgowrie and Pitlochry.

Head of housing Clare Mailer told councillors setting up the vaccination centres almost a month ahead of schedule had been a “true collaborative effort”.

Mrs Mailer was providing an update at a virtual meeting of Perth and Kinross Council on Wednesday, February 24.

She said feedback from both those manning the centres and members of the public on their experience had been “overwhelmingly positive.”

The head of housing told councillors that volunteers were now being sought.

She said: “The communities team is leading on developing a volunteers cohort to support staffing needs at the venues, liaising with community organisations, major employees and the ALEOs (arms-length external organisations) to develop the volunteer resource that we will need over the next few weeks.

"The team has developed an online portal and a scheduler where volunteers will be able to self-select shifts online.

“We hope that this will go live early next week whereby we will move to a blended model with volunteers supporting this crucial work supported by staff.”

Staff are still being asked to volunteer and councillors were also invited to offer their services.
