Call for NI families on Gogglebox after search for first Scottish family begins

As Gogglebox announces it is looking for its first Scottish family – calls have began for the smash Channel 4 series to have some opinions from Northern Ireland.

The show came under fire from the Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross who complained about the lack of representation at a Scottish affairs committee meeting in Westminster.

The broadcaster has now written to Members of Parliament to announce the search for a "suitable Scottish family" has begun.

The news of a potential Scottish family coming to our living rooms in the new year has left a local councillor asking when will NI families be given a shot on the telly-watching series.

Lisburn and Castlereagh councillor David Honeyford took to Twitter to see if there would be any local families up for appearing on the small screen.

He said: "Now that Scotland are getting a Gogglebox family, surely they need a NI-based family to really give them some craic!!!! Any volunteers?"

Although cast regular Mary Killen, who appears on the show with her husband Giles Wood, is originally from Larne, Cllr Honeyford argued an NI family would be sure to bring the laughs every episode.

Eamonn Holmes, Adrian Dunbar and the cast of Derry Girls have proven to be a big hit on the celebrity version of the show resulting in hilarious episodes filled with quick Northern Irish wit and charm.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Cllr Honeyford added: "It’s the one TV show that we as a family, my kids are older teens, all sit around to watch, my wife and daughter are super-fans.

"I suppose we’re just like other local families and are the Gogglebox of gogglebox!

"I’m definitely not volunteering but when there’s been a politician in Scotland calling for all parts of the UK to be included and has Channel 4 casting for a Scottish family, and I know they’ve Mary, but why not have an Northern Irish family included?

"We’re known as the friendliest part of the UK, we’d surely a local family would bring some real craic to the show and be inclusive of everyone on these islands! Look at the hit Derry Girls has been across the UK."
