Call for murder inquiry after Paisley dad brutally stabbed to death in street attack

A fatal accident inquiry must be held into the murder of a popular dad by a thug who had broken his electronic tag, Nicola Sturgeon was told yesterday.

Evil James Wright stabbed Craig McClelland, 31, in an unprovoked street attack in July 2017.

Wright had been released early from prison on a home detention curfew and removed his electronic tag before going on to kill Craig in Tweed Avenue, Paisley.

His family want answers as to why Wright – with 16 previous convictions – was free to kill.

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf rejected calls for a public inquiry.

But Lord Advocate James Wolffe QC said the Crown Office would consider a probe after Wright’s appeal was dealt with.

But at Holyrood yesterday, Labour MSP Neil Bibby said it had been rejected last week and an inquiry was essential.

The First Minister said the decision on an FAI was for the Lord Advocate.

She added that she would ensure the Lord Advocate was made aware of Bibby’s question and would ask him to correspond with the MSP directly.
