HUNTER police say a teenager has been safe and well on Wednesday, two days after inquiries began to find the 13-year-old.

Port Stephens Hunter Police District officers on Monday appealed for information on the Medowie youth, who had left her home about 8.30pm Sunday. Police were notified Monday.

They commenced an investigation into her whereabouts, appealing for public help on Tuesday.

"Following extensive inquiries, the teenager was located safe and well this morning," police said in a statement.

"Police would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance."

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information will be treated confidentially, police said.
