Call for action at 'nightmare' Nottingham junction

There have been calls for cameras and more signs at a busy Nottingham junction.

A reader called for the cameras at the Radford Road junction in Basford, blaming drivers who "jump the lights when turning right on to Valley Road".

Another said the light synchronisation "needs addressing" due to long queues on both sides of the junction at rush hour.

David Symonds, 32, said: "It’s a bit of a hectic junction but I'm not sure that cameras would sort it. People should obey the signs.

"It’s a nightmare because not all the lanes follow the same rules so people are going in different directions.

"Some lanes are covered by traffic lights and others aren't. It’s a bunch of different rules for one junction."

Babli Kaur, 26, added: "The police go past but they don’t do anything about drivers turning the wrong way.

"I find that taxi drivers are aggressive and don't follow the rules. McDonald's is also in the wrong place because it blocks up all the traffic.

"It should have a proper sign on it about turning right because it causes a lot of traffic. It has always been like this, even during lockdown it has been really busy."

A 38-year-old woman who did not wish to be named added: "It really irritates me when people turn right out of McDonald's when they aren't meant to.

"There is a blank wall as people come out of McDonald’s, and I've been tempted to paint it myself saying 'no right turn'.

"It happens all the time, when people go left it surprises me because they're actually following the rules.

"I don’t think people notice the signs in the McDonald's car park.

"It’s also really busy down there at rush hour."

Jordan stevens, 25, said: "It is causing accidents on the junction, it has happened so many times.

"I think they need to put a bigger sign up. Drivers are also aggressive because they are in a rush and nobody gives you space when you drive down there.

"I come past there every day so I've seen it a lot."

Nottingham City Council has been approached for a comment.
