Call for action as residents 'fear for their life' in Lenton road affected by speeding

Concerns over speeding have been raised in a residential road where neighbours said that 'they fear for their life'.

Families living on Faraday road, in Lenton, said they have witnessed serious road accidents in the past couple of years and have now called for safety measures to be implemented.

Many have spoken over the speeding issues remembering the "terrible" collision that happened on their doorstep last year.

They said that many race off at the junctions from the roads adjacent to Faraday road.

Wendy Smith, a resident on Faraday road, 48, said: "We are scared that someone would get killed if nothing changes soon.

"Last year we saw the terrible incident - all of us, everyone went out after we heard the cars smashing.

"I instantly remembered how my friend and I used to stand there chatting.

"We would have been killed if we were there and there is nothing you can do to predict things like this."

Ms Smith said she hears cars racing up and down the road constantly and added: "It is so frightening - it is an absolute nightmare.

"Someone will get killed one day and it could be anyone.

"I am just terrified that they might smashing into my house as it is just on the main road.

"We would not survive if something like that did happen.

"It is scary to live here and I am feared for my life and others'."

Her daughter Heavenly Butcher, a shop staff worker who lives with her mum, added: "I remember hearing a loud bang that night and I have been concerned about speeding ever since.

"You can hear them racing on the street - it is just so bad.

"Sometimes I have to turn the volume up on my TV because they are so loud."

Another resident has also raised her concerns over the problematic road where the risks of a road accident 'are high'.

Martha Lewis, of Cycle road, 55, added: "We are all frightened and we know how dangerous it is.

"When I have my grandchildren over they know they cannot leave the car until I have told them to do so.

"People drive so dangerously here despite this being a residential road.

"I do not understand why they think they could do that."

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “We have received two concerns over vehicle speeds in Faraday Road in the last two years.

“Due to the length of the road, it would be very expensive to implement traffic calming or other measures, but we regularly review all roads and, should the need be identified, we would do what we could with funding available.

“Residents can report road safety concerns by emailing road.safety@nottinghamcity.gov.uk. Speeding and dangerous driving can also be reported to the police.”
