California’s lone open ski resort announces closing date

The only ski resort still operating lifts for skiers and snowboarders in California will not remain open into August as hoped.

Mammoth Mountain, a sprawling Eastern Sierra Nevada resort that received a whopping 60 feet of snow during the 2018-19 winter, announced Monday via Facebook that it will close July 28.

“Mother Nature has been turning up the heat recently and snow is melting fast – the last day of skiing and riding will be Sunday, July 28,” the announcement reads. “Stay tuned for details on a closing day celebration.”

Mammoth currently has three lifts open, operating from the Main Lodge.

OnTheSnow.com, which keeps track of open ski resorts in California, list Mammoth as the lone resort available to skiers and riders, with snow depth ranging from 10-25 inches.

In 2016-17, Mammoth remained open through Aug. 6.
