California Man Missing For 25 Years Found As Registered Sex Offender

25 years of the Good Friday Agreement, in Belfast

A California man who went missing in 1999 was recently identified by his sister after his picture was printed in an article in April of this year. The man, Tommy Manizak, was discovered to be a registered sex offender who had been convicted in 1993, according to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department.

Manizak had served three years in county prison for his offense. Details surrounding the case revealed that he was never fingerprinted, which hindered the authorities from identifying him earlier.

Marcella (Marcie) Nasseri, Manizak's sister, recognized him in the article and contacted the sheriff's department, believing he was her long-lost brother who had been missing for 25 years. Manizak had been admitted to a hospital in the Los Angeles area, and further investigation confirmed his identity through fingerprinting.

Despite the unsettling revelations about Manizak's past, Nasseri expressed her joy at reconnecting with her brother. She acknowledged the disturbing nature of his actions but emphasized her unwavering love and support for him, stating, 'At the end of the day, he's still my brother, and I'm not turning my back on my flesh and blood.'

Manizak had failed to update his sex offender registration when he moved to Oregon, leading to a lack of information about his whereabouts. Nasseri, who is located 600 miles away from her brother, is seeking assistance to provide him with necessary support until a medical transfer can be arranged.

She has initiated efforts to transfer him to a facility in Lassen County and is sending him essential items such as clothing, pencils, and a scratch pad to aid in his recovery. Nasseri's dedication to helping her brother through his challenges demonstrates her unconditional love and commitment to his well-being.
