Calgary Flames prospect tries to go into stands after fan throws trash at him

The Calgary Flames drafted Martin Pospisil with the No. 105 pick in last year’s draft, and the 19-year-old has remained with the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL this season.

He narrowly avoided an ugly incident during the weekend’s game against the Omaha Lancers.

As Pospisil was in the penalty box, words exchanged with spectators escalated when a fan threw trash at Pospisil. The Flames prospect responded by trying to climb the barrier of the box and enter the stands. He was restrained just before the altercation could spill over into a fan-player brawl.

A report from Flames Nation suggests that Pospisil was dealing with abuse from the Omaha fans well before the video started. Via flamesnation.ca:

The context behind this is pretty gross: Pospisil was in the box for roughing and then had garbage thrown at him by the Omaha fans, and he accordingly lashed out. Probably a bit over the edge, but maybe people shouldn’t throw garbage at teenage hockey players. No discipline announced yet although he missed the next game.

It was nearly a reverse of Tie Domi vs. a Flyers fan in 2001.

As of Wednesday, the USHL had not announced any discipline for Pospisil.
