Caledonian Braves target historic semi-final spot ahead of Dunipace clash

Ricky Waddell says his Caledonian Braves side have a great chance to reach a semi-final on Saturday – but can’t take opponents Dunipace lightly.

The East of Scotland League First Division Conference A side visit Alliance Park in the South Challenge Cup quarter-finals, and Waddell expects a tough game.

He said: “We’re getting closer and closer. We were disappointed to lose to Rothes in the Scottish Cup first round, but this is a regionalised competition, so it’s a good opportunity to progress.

“Dunipace will have their say on things, I notice they’re doing pretty well in their league. It will be a tough game but we will approach it as professionally as we can.

“We set some targets and one of them was to get into the semi-final of a cup, so this is a good opportunity.

“It would be massive for us to get some silverware, it would rubber-stamp where we are and it would be a mark of progress.

“This squad has been brilliant and they deserve to be in a cup final, but they have to earn that right.”

The Braves go into the cup clash on the back of a 3-1 win over East Stirlingshire, with Ross McNeil adding to a Neil McLaughlin double.

Ricky said: “I wanted a positive result against one of the top four teams just to see where are and I was really pleased for the boys.”
