Caleb Plant suffers cut as Canelo Alvarez face-off erupts into brawl

Caleb Plant has suffered a cut in an ugly clash with upcoming opponent Canelo Alvarez at their first face-off.

The pair met for the first time at a press-conference, just over one month out from their undisputed clash in November.

With plenty at stake, there has been nothing held back ahead of their clash with both fighters confident of getting the job done.

And now the pair have clashed with punches thrown in a melee in front of the media at the opening press-conference held in Las Vegas.

Canelo and Plant first exchanged words in a heated interview each, before the pound-for-pound king pushed his opponent during their face-off.

His American opponent then threw a punch at the unified champion, which sparked a furious brawl where Alvarez appeared to cut his opponent as further shots were landed.

Security were finally able to calm the pair down and lead them their seperate ways, but it now adds to the already high stakes in the ring.

Plant has radiated confidence already in the build-up to the clash, making a bold prediction ahead of the fight downplaying Alvarez's "experience".

“I mean, he’s a great fighter,” Plant said. “He’s been around for a long time and he’s accomplished a lot, but you know, within his first 30 fights I was probably fighting better competition than he was in the amateurs. I’m a Golden Gloves national champion, I’m an Olympic alternate.

"But, you know, I know he’s got experience on me, but everybody that I’ve ever fought had more fights than me. So, experience is a factor, but it’s not the determining factor.

"So, he’s a good fighter, but there’s no way that he’s better than me, and I truly believe that in my heart.”

Alvarez defeated British super middleweight Billy Joe Saunders in his last ring outing, fracturing the former champions orbital during a stoppage dismissal.

And he is now looking to solidify his place as the number one fighter in the world, with further victory over Plant.

But 29-year-old Plant has vowed to ruin his path to becoming undisputed champion, and has revealed he is fully vaccinated despite his initial reservations.

Who will win- Canelo Alvarez or Caleb Plant? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

“You know, no one’s, you know, put a guy to my head and said, ‘You have to sign this for the vaccination,’ or anything like that.

"But, you know, to be honest, not for any political reason, but I haven’t been a big fan of the vaccination.

"But I’m not opposed to people getting the vaccination. You know, but I feel like if you’re healthy and you’re young and you’re strong, like I am, you know, the long-term effects, I’m not exactly sure what they are.

“But I feel like if I got Covid, I could get through it just fine, but I did get the vaccination and I’m vaccinated because I don’t want this moment to slip by.

"And I’ve already sacrificed so much for the sport. Like I talked about, I’m not gonna let something like COVID get in the way of stopping me from obtaining my destiny.”

The pair could face further British interest with Chris Eubank Jr expecting Plant to run from Alvarez in their clash, but is willing to call out the winner and move up in weight.
