Calderstones Park cafe, toilets and ice cream parlour shut after 'potential' coronavirus case

South Liverpool's Calderstones Park has closed down its facilities after a "potential case" of coronavirus on site.

The Reader charity, which is based in the park, made the announcement on its website yesterday.

Following the suspected case, the charity has made the decision to temporarily close the toilet facilities, the Mansion House, the cafe and ice cream parlour for a deep clean.

The Reader's statement goes on to say all relevant authorities have been contacted and it is awaiting advice on the next steps to take.

Anyone who needs to isolate will be contacted to do so by NHS Track and Trace.

The charity said since the Calderstones site was reopened following lockdown it has put extra steps in place to operate as a “Covid-safe” enterprise.

As a "responsible and community-based organisation", the organisation took any risk to customers and staff seriously and action has been taken to “minimise any potential spread in our community.”

There was no mention of when the facilities will reopen, but the Reader will update the public as the situation develops.

On their Facebook page, it apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closures.

Calderstones Park itself, which remains open, is a 94-acre family park in South Liverpool popular with dog walkers and boasts woodland, a lake and a Japanese garden.

In September 2019, the Mansion House reopened after shutting its doors for three years to undergo an extensive £5m restoration.

Also popular with visitors are the park’s cafe, ice cream parlour and children’s story centre The Storybarn.

The Reader organisation has occupied and run the park’s facilities, including the Mansion House, since 2013.
