Calamari, beef short rib and roasted cauliflower: the fillings at this Leith sandwich shop are unreal

Calamari, beef short rib and spiced roasted cauliflower - no, they're not main courses, they're sandwich fillings at Leith's latest opening.

Sandwich shop Alby's , ran by Natasha Ferguson and Matt Belcher (as well their dog, and shop namesake, Alby), has opened its doors at 8 Portland Place, Leith , offering up a mouth-watering list of 'Big Hot Sandwiches'.

Open 'til late, the independent business is BYOB and dog-friendly . In a rush? The team will happily wrap you up a sammy to go.

All the sandwiches are created using foccacia from Edinburgh-based bakery Andante - so you're supporting two local businesses just by scranning one piece.

Currently the sandwich shop 's 'Big Hot Sandwiches' list includes:

- Calamari, squid ink aioli, fried capers, chives and iceberg lettuce

- Beef short rib, red saurkraut, parsnip crisps, horseradish mayo and rocket

- Pork, beef and fennel meatballs, house tomato sauce, parmesan, basil and rocket

- Spiced roasted cauliflower, garlic and lemon tahini, coriander dressing, pickled onion

Need something to munch alongside your sandwich? Why not bash through a portion of 'Radgey Bhajis' - the delicious love child of an onion ring and an onion bhaji served up with a coriander dip.

Open 12-10pm, Wednesday to Sunday, you can keep up to date with what the sandwich-serving duo of Alby's are dishing out to the people of Edinburgh over on their Instagram .
