Calais Migrant Crisis - In Photos

French gendarmes try to separate migrants on the Eurotunnel site near the boarding docks in Coquelles near Calais, northern France, on late July 29, 2015. One man died Wednesday in a desperate attempt to reach England via the Channel Tunnel as overwhelmed authorities fought off hundreds of migrants, prompting France to beef up its police presence. ()

Newly released images from Calais display an increasingly desperate situation as migrants risk their lives to gain access to the United Kingdom. As well as a daily effort to access the channel tunnel by climbing over barbed wire fences, taking on riot police armed with tear gas and 90mph trains; we can also see the squalid living conditions the estimated 3,500 migrants in the area are enduring.

Events took a tragic turn yesterday as a young Sudanese migrant was found dead in the tunnel, the 9th recorded this year, migrants in the area insist this does not dissuade them and they are ready to die to find peace in Britain.  According to Euro Tunnel there has been on average around 1,500 - 2000 migrants storming the gate each night creating chaos for rail and road services in the area, many of the migrants admit that the only way to get into the tunnel is in large numbers.

In the area an unofficial shanty town has developed as migrants make temporary homes for shelter; coined "the new jungle" conditions in these area's are incredibly poor and quickly becoming a breeding ground for disease and violence.

Meanwhile Prime Minister David Cameron was criticised for his comments this morning as as he referred to the groups of migrants who are attempting to storm the tunnel as "a swarm" he added "Everything that can be done will be done to make sure our borders are secure and make sure that British holidaymakers are able to go on their holidays".

Below images portray the daily struggles of migrants, including a look into camps and desperate clasheswith law enforcement.
