Calais Campbell named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

After an impressive performance during “Thursday Night Football” in which Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was sacked nine times, it appears that “Sacksonville” is officially back. A big reason for that is because of the performance of defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who finished the night with seven tackles and three sacks.

As a result of his big-time performance, Campbell was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday, marking his third time winning the award. For those who can recall, he last won the award Week 1 of 2017 after the Jags defeated the Houston Texans and racked up 10 sacks, four of which were acquired by Campbell.

The 12th-year veteran will now look to repeat his performance against his hometown team in the Denver Broncos, who are currently 0-3 and have struggled to protect quarterback Joe Flacco. Campbell will enter the game with 28 sacks to his name as a Jaguar, and when looking at how many multi-sack games he’s had since joining the team (six), it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that he’ll reach 30 or more Sunday.
