Cakes In Space by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre - review

Philip Reeve, Cakes in Space

Astra and her family are going to live on Nova Mundi, but it will take them 199 years to get there, and they will have to sleep for 199 years before they can arrive! Before Astra goes to sleep she is hungry so she asks a food machine (called a Nom-O-Tron) for a chocolate biscuit, and then she asks Nom-O-Tron for a big super–fantastic cake that was so delicious it was scary, but it takes Nom-O-Tron a long time and instead of making the cake that Astra wanted, it made lots of cakes that wanted to eat people!

After Astra escapes the cakes, she meets some aliens called Poglites, and gets sucked up in their collector bag which they use to steal things from other people's space ships. Poglites think that spoons are like treasure and raid Astra's space ship looking for spoons!

This is quite a funny book and I really liked the pictures. I think that boys and girls age 6-9 who like adventures would enjoy this book. I would give it 5/5.
