Cake experts Ahh Toots opening new café in Bristol city centre

Everyone with a sweet tooth in Bristol will know Ahh Toots serves some of the tastiest cakes you'll find anywhere in the city.

It's impossible to walk past its St Nicholas Market stall without admiring the beautiful array of cakes on offer - and unless you've got some serious restraint you'll probably find yourself popping in to sample one or two.

As well as serving cakes and other wholesome dishes including salads and legendary sausage rolls from their market stall, the experienced bakers also create stunning cakes for special occasions from their Easton hub.

But in March the business will make a welcome expansion into the city centre, making it easier for us to enjoy Ahh Toots' mouthwatering creations...

New café

After building up the reputation of their St Nicholas Market stall over the past seven years, the Ahh Toots team are launching a second café in the centre.

Couple Amy Symonds and Tamarind Galliford, who head up the business, will launch their new site in the former fish and chip takeaway adjacent to The Christmas Steps pub.

This will become the new hub of the company and will be where they make cakes to sell at both the St Nicholas Market stall - which will remain open - and the new café.

Their Easton production base will close as a result.

"The new café will become our new hub with two kitchens, including one in the front window so people can walk past and see what Tam is making and one at the back where I'll be based," said pastry chef Amy.

"I have worked as a chef in a number of Michelin restaurants including the Pony and Trap and Michael Caines, so I'm really looking forward to getting back in the kitchen.

"I'll be focusing on traditional, simple food done really well including brunch, salads, sandwiches and more.

"We're also going to do grab and go options for the nearby workers on their lunch breaks.

"Although it's great being in St Nicholas Market it's also quite restrictive as we've got such a small space, so we're really excited to have more space to play with."

Amy added they plan to serve afternoon tea which people can book out for special occasions and, interestingly, also open late one night a week to serve high quality fish and chips, as a nod to the cuisine previously served at the building.

They hope to open their new café at the foot of The Christmas Steps at the end of March. For more information on Ahh Toots, visit its Facebook page.
