Caitlyn Jenner says it was harder admitting she's Republican than coming out as trans

Caitlyn Jenner admitted it was a lot harder to announce to her family she is a Republican than it was to come out as transgender.

The 71-year-old Olympic gold medallist found it difficult to tell the Kardashian-Jenner family that she was running as a Republican candidate for Governor of California.

The topic came about when the host of FOX 11's The Issue Is, Elex Michaelson, asked if Kim Kardashian would be an adviser to her.

Caitlyn said: "One thing and I've talked to all my family about running for governor and to be honest with you, it was easier to come out as trans than as a Republican candidate for governor, it was a lot tougher to sell.

The reality star and former runner revealed she was running as a candidate for the election on Twitter back in April.

In a statement, Caitlyn said: "California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

"But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by the one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision."

She claimed she's "a proven winner and the only outsider who can put an end to Gavin Newsom's disastrous time as governor."

A few weeks after announcing her campaign, it was reported that her sons Burt, Brandon and Brody Jenner are "embarrassed" by the candidacy news.

TMZ's report also suggests that only one of her sons, Burt, has actually spoken to the star following his concerns about her safety amid the campaign.

However, she has received support from celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is a former state governor.

He had predicted that Caitlyn can repeat his triumph if she presents a clear vision for California's future.

Arnie had said: "The key thing about all of this is it doesn't matter if it's Caitlyn or anyone else - to have a clear vision of where you want to go, what are the kind of changes you want to make and why are you qualified to become governor."
