Caitlyn Jenner has again insisted that transgender athletes who are born male should not be allowed to take part in girls' sports teams or competitions.
The reality star - who won gold in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics - recently announced that she is running for governor of California, and has previously made clear her opposition to athletes who are born male competing against girls.
Caitlyn, 71, came out as transgender in 2015, and is widely seen as the most high-profile trans person in America.
She was approached by TMZ about her thoughts on the subject of athletes who are born male competing against girls, and questioned over whether it would be something that she looked into should she be elected governor.
The TMZ interviewer asked her: "There’s legislation in various states to ban biological boys or trans from playing girls’ sports in school, what’s your opinion on that?’
Caitlyn replied: "This is a question of fairness.
"That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school.
"It just isn’t fair, and we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools."
Seeking further clarification of Caitlyn's thoughts, the reporter then asked if enforcing such a rule would be 'de-legitimising' to trans people, but Caitlyn refused to elaborate and simply wished them a good day.
Caitlyn, who is running for governor as a candidate for the Republican party, later tweeted the interview, along with the words: "I didn’t expect to get asked this on my Saturday morning coffee run, but I’m clear about where I stand.
"It’s an issue of fairness and we need to protect girls’ sports in our schools."
