Egypt’s Foreign Ministry thanked on Saturday Saudi authorities for their efforts in saving three Egyptian fishermen whose vessel was struck by a naval mine planted by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen in the Red Sea.

Three other Egyptian fishermen perished in the incident.

Egyptian consul general in Jeddah Hisham Fathi said he contacted Saudi authorities as soon as he heard of the incident, adding that he had dispatched a consulate representative to the site of the accident.

The representative was with the wounded every step of the way from the time they were rescued and until their discharged from hospital, he stated.

The official also followed up on the process of searching for the victims, whose corpses were retrieved at sea and eventually buried.
