The past years of political unrest in Cairo have led to further clashes over the city’s built future, with controversial policies of “regeneration” sparking more protests. From creating exclusive spaces to “cleansing” parts of the downtown district, the character of the city is seemingly being shaped by top-down forces; in his recent post, Guardian Cities’ Cairo blogger Cairobserver claimed there is not adequate representation and participation in urban affairs and change.
