A Cairns man returning from work in Papua New Guinea has tested positive for coronavirus.
The man flew into the Far North Queensland city this week on a charter flight and immediately quarantined in a hotel.
All workers on the flight were tested for COVID-19 and were also quarantined.
Local MP Michael Healy said the man's case was "very mild".
"This person is still well and truly quarantined, " Mr Healy said.
"We are confident that there has been no risk to the community."
Mr Healy would not elaborate on the day or time of the flight.
PNG has had a spike in COVID-19 cases, but flights are continuing to operate between Cairns and its nearest international neighbour.
"We are continuing to monitor the situation in PNG," Mr Healy said.
The latest PNG case is one of two new cases in Queensland.
The other infected person is a trainer at the Corrective Services Academy at Wacol, west of Brisbane.
Health Minister Steven Miles said both cases were already in quarantine when they were diagnosed.
"They are not of concern in terms of local infection," Mr Miles said.
Queensland now has 17 active coronavirus cases.
New drive-through clinic opens
Far North Queensland has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 tests for a region outside south-east Queensland.
Nearly 30,000 tests were carried out across the Cairns and hinterland areas this year.
Demand for testing has seen the establishment of a new drive-through clinic at Band Hall, in Mareeba's Borzi Park.
It will open on Friday, August 28.
"The more people are testing, the sooner we will be able to act if there is COVID-19 transmission within the community, " Mareeba Hospital facility manager Ross Clarksmith said.
"This gives us a better chance to shut down an outbreak."
He said tests at the drive-through testing clinic would be free, but people needed to make an appointment.
