Caged OAP 'still a risk to children'

A children’s charity insists a repeat sex offender poses an ongoing risk to kids after he was caged for 18 months.

NSPCC Scotland called for serial predator Henry O’Donnell, 70, to be given treatment behind bars in a bid to stop him re-offending when released.

He was jailed at Paisley Sheriff Court this after breaching his Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) by making sexual gestures to two girls, aged just 13 and 14, on a bus to Paisley.

It emerged that fiend O’Donnell was caged for three months at Paisley Sheriff Court in 1988 for shameless indecency, and he was caged for five years at the High Court in Glasgow in 1998 for abusing three girls aged between 10 and 12.

In 2005, he was jailed again for five months when he flashed at a group of schoolgirls after following them.

He has also been jailed at Newcastle, Inverness and Perth for breaking his SOPO.

A spokesman for NSPCC Scotland said: “O’Donnell’s repeat offending and disregard for the SOPO is disturbing and he clearly represents an ongoing risk to children.

“It is vital he now receives effective treatment behind bars to reduce the risk of him committing these offences once again.”

“NSPCC Scotland works in schools and in the community to prevent abuse and anyone worried about a child can contact our Helpline on 0808 800 5000 report concerns. Children can call Childline at any time on 0800 1111.”
