Cafu leaves Luka Modric out of Real Madrid and Liverpool combined XI in favour of Jurgen Klopp favourite

Brazil legend Cafu has given his views on members of the Liverpool squad compared to their counterparts at Real Madrid.

The Reds are due to face the La Liga giants in their Champions League last-16 tie next month. The two teams meet at Anfield on February 21 in the first leg, before the return leg sees Liverpool travel to Madrid on March 15.

It will see a rematch of the Champions League final from last May. The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Spanish club in Paris thanks to a goal from Vinicius Jr.

With less than a month until the two teams meet again, Cafu has taken part in a head to head for the key players in both squads. Speaking to TNT Sport Brasil, the former full-back has named which player he prefers compared to their counterpart.

His early selections saw Cafu go for Thibaut Courtois over Liverpool goalkeeper, and fellow Brazilian, Alisson Becker. In defence he picked Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson over Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy.

Centre-back saw the decisions shared. Virgil van Dijk was chosen ahead of Antonio Rudiger, while Ibrahima Konate missed out to Eder Militao.

Midfield is where the decisions got more interesting. When asked to choose between Jordan Henderson or Luka Modric, Cafu replied: “Henderson, without a shadow of a doubt,” while chuckling.

Elsewhere in his selections, Cafu picked Fabinho over Eduardo Camavinga, Thiago Alcantara over Toni Kroos and Mohamed Salah over Federico Valverde. However, the Reds contingent missed with Karim Benzema picked over Darwin Nunez and Vinicius over Cody Gakpo.
