A legendary Glasgow cafe has been honoured in Westminster's Houses of Parliament on its 95th birthday.
Jaconelli's in Maryhill was given a special mention at the House of Commons for its service to the local community in an early day motion tabled by SNP's Patrick Grady – with support from MPs such as Alison Thewliss, David Linden, Hugh Gaffney and Christopher Stewart.
It read: "It was opened by Mario Jaconelli in 1924 and has been serving the community in Maryhill and across the north of the city ever since; appreciates that customers enjoy delicious hot food and home-made artisan ice cream in the unmatched surroundings of the cafe's traditional 1950s interior; recognises the inimitable character of the cafe has attracted people from all over Glasgow and around the world."
MPs congratulated the Maryhill gem, where Spud and Renton shared a milkshake in 1996 film Trainspotting, for its "commitment to maintaining an authentic old-fashioned cafe experience for all of its visitors and the local community."
The cafe's other claims to fame include Robert Carlyle-starring film Carla's Song and Robbie Coltrane cult classic Tutti Frutti.
Jaconelli's shared the news on Facebook, adding: "Jaconelli’s Cafe was mentioned in the House Of Commons acknowledging 95 years in the community. Thank to all our customers."
