Cafe inspired by a love of coffee and Labradors is opening its first spot in Cardiff

A dog-friendly cafe has announced that it will be opening a new site in Cardiff.

Coffi Lab is a dog-friendly cafe with locations already in Monmouth, Marlborough, and Abergavenny. Inspired by a "love of coffee and leafy neighbourhoods," the cafe says it seeks to provide "exceptional coffee, cosy gathering spaces and warm hospitality."

The new Cardiff site will have its grand opening on Llandaff High Street on November 27, with 100% of proceeds being donated to Guide Dogs UK on the opening day.

The coffee shop sells a range of coffees, smoothies, pastries, sandwiches and even dog biscuits. The first site, in Monmouth, opened in July this year.

The cafe has chosen to become corporate partners with Guide Dogs UK, and says on its website that it will do "all it can to support this wonderful cause," including 'puppy partnerships,' fundraising challenger days and supporting local volunteers.

Founder of Coffee #1, James Shapland, is behind the new cafe concept.

Through the partnership with Guide Dogs UK, Coffi Lab sponsors guide dogs in loving memory of family and friends.

Their first sponsored Guide Dog for their Monmouth store is Tony, a Labrador cross Golden Retriever pup born in September and named in memory of James’ father Tony Shapland.

James told WalesOnline: "I attended Llandaff Cathedral School so this location holds a special place in my heart. I was born and grew up in Cardiff so we hope to open several locations in Cardiff.

"Cardiff is blessed with several friendly neighbourhoods where we hope to find a home and become established as a community hub."

The business was inspired by James' two Fox-Red Labradors, Brynmor and Dylann and he runs the business alongside his partner Hannah Gillard who works as Managing Director

James said that he started the business after realising that there was a gap in the market for a business where dog-owners and their pets could come together in a relaxing environment.
