Cafe chain Friska to stop taking cash payments due to coronavirus fears

A cafe chain with branches in Bristol is taking measures to help tackle the spread of coronavirus.

Friska has nine coffee shops across the city, including in Park Street, in Harbourside and in Temple Meads.

In a social media post, the well-known cafe chain said it had decided to take a number of steps to reduce the risk of infection to both their teams and customers.

It continued: "We are facing a period of national uncertainty and what is required is decisive, confident and clear action.

"We will move to card only payments across the business - we will only accept cash payments if the internet goes down, resulting in cashless payments being imposible."

It added: "All hot drinks will be served in disposable cups and unfortunately we will not be accepting keep cups.

"We will continue to offer free tap water to anyone who asks and these will be served in paper cups from the bar on request (rather than from communal water stations)."

The chain will also temporally stop scanning for loyalty points because it requires phones to be handed to cashiers.
