Caerphilly Rugby Club shuts down after member tests positive for coronavirus

A rugby club has closed down for deep cleaning after a member tested positive for coronavirus.

Caerphilly RFC said they have instigated their track and trace procedures to notify other members at the club.

A statement from the club on Monday night said: "We as a club have been notified that a member who was at the club on Friday has tested positive for Covid 19.

"We will now pass our track and trace data to the NHS. The club will be closed, deep cleaned over the next two days and open once again as normal on Thursday."

The news comes following the announcement Caerphilly county is being placed under a local lockdown on Tuesday, September 8.

Government officials say the new measures are being introduced following a rapid increase of confirmed coronavirus cases, which "have been linked to clusters of people meeting indoors, not following social distancing guidelines in the borough and summer holidays overseas".

Caerphilly are not the only rugby club to have taken precautions because of coronarvirus.

Neath RFC cancelled training for two weeks amid concerns over coronavirus.

Bedwas RFC were forced to close last week after a customer tested positive for coronavirus.

Something similar has occurred in Maesteg, where a number of pubs and establishments, including Maesteg Celtic RFC, have been deep cleaned after social media claims that people who recently returned from Zante with Covid-19 symptoms had been drinking there last weekend.

And a sports club in Drefach, Carmarthenshire was shut down for two weeks after a presentation evening organised "in breach of coronavirus regulations” led to 12 people testing positive for Covid-19.
