Cadbury's giant Mini Eggs Easter egg wins Good Housekeeping blind taste test

Cadbury's Mini Eggs Easter egg has come out on top in this year's blind taste test for Good Housekeeping.

The £12 chocolate egg, which is available at Tesco, was chosen as the best Easter egg and beat more than 40 other sweet offerings.

Experts and consumers munched their way through 42 different Easter eggs to find the winner of 2021.

Made with Mini Egg pieces embedded in its shell, Cadbury's Mini Eggs Easter egg beat Ferrero Rocher's Large Boxed Egg to the top.

Meanwhile, Waitrose took top spot for the best supermarket own-brand egg, scoring 90 of out 100 for its No.1 Hidden Truffles Nutty Milk Chocolate Easter Egg with Salted Caramel Truffles (£10).

The judges were impressed with the four golden salted caramel truffles on the side, as well as the sweet and salty flavours of the egg, which is packed with salt crystals and crunchy almonds.

This year's best vegan Easter egg is none other than Doisy & Dam's 70% Dark Chocolate Easter Egg with Almond Nuttercups (£8).

Scoring 82 out of 100, the 260g treat is available online at doisyanddam.com.

Cadbury Mini Eggs Easter Egg, £12 - winner

This Cadbury egg was praised for its sweet and creamy chocolate.

Not only does it have mini egg pieces embedded in its shell, but also comes with a bag of mini eggs.

Score: 93/100

Ferrero Rocher Large Boxed Egg, £10 - runner up

This Ferrero Rocher egg has a nut encrusted shell and comes with eight truffles.

Score: 92/100

Waitrose & Partners No.1 Hidden Truffles Nutty Milk Chocolate Easter Egg with Salted Caramel Truffles, £10 - highest scoring supermarket own-brand

Made from 49% single origin milk chocolate, this fancy Waitrose egg comes with four separate salty truffles too.

It's also laced with salt crystals and almonds.

Score: 90/100

Doisy & Dam 70% Dark Chocolate Easter Egg with Almond Nuttercups, £8  - highest scoring vegan Easter egg

Judges who tried this vegan Easter egg were impressed with the notes of red fruit and coffee.

It comes complete with two packs of dark chocolate and almond flavour Nuttercups, which are made with 70% cocoa.

Score: 82/100

Alongside chocolate eggs, the Good Housekeeping Institute's experts blind tested hot cross buns. 

Aldi took the top spot with its Luxury Fruited Hot Cross Buns, which are priced at just 99p for four.

This year, Easter falls on Sunday April 4 and the Easter Monday bank holiday is on April 5.

Shoppers can still pick up Easter eggs during lockdown from supermarkets as they remain open as essential retailers.
