Game design: A computer games firm setting up base in Dundee will create 150 new jobs, reports the BBC. Outplay Entertainment is establishing new offices to produce games for use on smart phones, social networks and other internet platforms. The company's founders plan to recruit artists, designers and programmers - along with a number of other roles - to begin work within weeks, according to The Courier.
Technology: Financial services firm Fidelity Investments has announced plans to create 100 software jobs in Ireland. The jobs will range from entry level to management positions and will be spread across the company's offices in Galway and Dublin, reports Computerworld UK. The new positions will fall under the remit of Fidelity Technology Group (FTG), the division of the company which provides technology research, services and operations.
Social care: A new care home being built in York could create up to 90 jobs, reports The Press. The 83-bed residential facility will provide accommodation for pensioners and young people with physical disabilities. It is expected around 80 and 90 staff will be taken on, including care assistants, nursing staff, catering and household workers and administration and maintenance staff. Work on the site begins this week and is expected to be finished by January 2012.
Research and development: Cadbury is creating 100 new jobs in Birmingham. The company is recruiting 50 new "expert position" jobs at the research and development arm in its Bournville factory, according to the Birmingham Mail. There will also be 50 jobs in the factory's customer service and logistics department. The firm is holding an open evening for the new customer service jobs from 5pm to 8pm this Thursday at the Bournville site.
Call centre: Independent travel group Barrhead Travel is doubling the number of workers in its Glasgow call centre. The company is creating 50 jobs at its city centre HQ, reports the Evening Times.
Retail: The Co-operative Group will create 1,700 new management jobs in its food stores over the next few months, according to the Press Association. The new jobs are in addition to plans to expand the Co-operative's food store network in the next three years, which will create around 7,000 jobs.
